Assorted (Late August Edition)

I’ve heard more recordings of the Goldberg Variations than I could care to count, but Lars Vogt’s recently released album manages to bring out a rare emotional quality, yet mannerism-free without ever falling into cheap sentimental territory. This just brings a big smile to my face.

Didn’t realize there were so many variations on my new favorite chai – just learned that the Starbucks staff have in-house names (depending on number of added espresso shots) ranging from dirty, naughty, slutty, to filthy.

When in New York in October: Pollini (“the dean of living pianists”) plays Schumann and Chopin at Carnegie Hall.

“Globally, it’s now virtually certain that 2015 will be the hottest year in history.”
