Mitsuko Uchida playing the Sarabande from French Suite BWV 816 by Bach: here’s a work that performers sometimes like to include in a program, but on this particular occasion it’s surrounded by miniatures by Kurtag – in a heartbeat everything falls into place; somehow the piece manages to transform into a crystal clear thing of extraordinary beauty, and every single note becomes perfection. A brief moment I’ll remember for years.
