My first live experience of Handel’s The Messiah last Friday evening was not at all what I’d expect. The Bach Choir and Orchestra of the Netherlands did a good job, but the soloists were mediocre at best. The soprano Miranda van Kralingen sounded like she’d wanted to do something from the Valkyrie instead, and the unintentionally funny countertenor Sytse Buwalda just reminded me of how tragicomic it can be when a man tries his best to hit those really high notes, but fails miserably.
This recording of a Messiah highlight contains an error that will make your ears bleed. [via The Rambler]
A wonderful, truly wonderful performance of that most famous Hallelujah chorus is performed in a more unconventional way by the Northwestern University Kazoo Choir (NUKC) in the following video.
