The winners of the Classic FM Gramophone Awards were announced yesterday. Artist of the Year is Julia Fischer, the 24-year-old German violinist. It’s exciting news, as I personally believe her to be one of the younger generation’s most talented violinists, along with Hilary Hahn, Leila Josefowicz and Lisa Batiashvili.
The recording prize for best contemporary disc went to Julian Anderson‘s Alhambra Fantasy with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Oliver Knussen, an album I purchased earlier this year and that has received a rather high play count in iTunes.
