Today’s purchase: a recording of Franck’s Sonata for violin and piano, with Vladimir Ashkenazy and Itzhak Perlman. I didn’t have any recordings of it, and it’s the first work I’m going to hear live when in New York in a couple of weeks, so I’m happy.
My playlist today:
Jean-Philippe Rameau – First Book – 1706 – Tzimon Barto (Ondine)
Joseph Martin Kraus – Symphony C minor VB 142 – Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Petter Sundquist (Naxos)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Figaro K 492: Giunse alfin il momento, K 577 – Magdalena Kozena (Archiv)
Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony no 1 op 21 – The London Classical Players, Norrington (Virgin)
Gustav Mahler – Symphony no 4 G major – Concertgebouw Orchestra, Mengelberg (Pristine Audio, live recording 9th November, 1939)
Jean Sibelius – String Quartet D minor op 56 – Emerson String Quartet (Deutsche Grammophon)
Paul Hindemith – Kammermusik no 5 op 36 no 4 – Concerto Amsterdam (Teldec)
György Ligeti – Three Pieces for Two Pianos – Alfons & Aloys Kontarsky (Deutsche Grammophon)
Later this evening we’re celebrating Kim and Cindy who turned 12 today. We’re going to bring out the squeaky toys and eat lots of cake.
